Building of the Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art was created in the town of Sosnovy Bor (Pine Forest) in 1991. The idea to arrange a museum of modern art just here seems natural as the town is very young and population is well-educated. The town was founded in 1973 to facilitate the needs of the Leningradskaya nuclear power station and many young scientists and engineers came to settle here. Architects and designers tried to preserve the natural beauty of the site when building apartment houses and creating infrastructure and a nice cosy town its residents are proud of sprang up.

The museum occupies the tailor-designed building. The works of the collection have been either acquired from or donated by the state funds of the USSR and Russian Federation and private persons. Paintings by such renowned contemporary artists as O.Yakhnin, T.Yablonskaya, E.Shcherbakov, A.Kharshak, V.Vetrogonsky, P.Dominov, V.Yantarev et al. are exhibited in the museum.

Besides displaying the permanent collection, the museum arranges rotating shows of artists of the former Soviet Union, participates in various cultural actions and offers special programs for kids.
